Donor Type 2:

The Engaging Donor

Each of your church members and donors will have specific needs, which vary as they grow in service and in time with your fellowship. As a church leader, knowing how and why people do what they do is essential for growth.

We have learned that, in order to grow a donor effectively and secure them as a trusted giver, a leader or church director must understand their personality.

In this article, we look at The Engaging Donor. If you are a leader, engaging with your flock, ad looking for the perfect giving software to lead them, then this guide will be helpful for planning the next services and church programs geared to donors.

In our Donor Personality Test, modeled after the Enneagram, we covered the basics of each personality in relation to the spiritual and emotional senses.

Remember the theory of this test: each person is born with a dominant personality type that does not change throughout your life. However, this personality type is not set in stone. Your fellowship and teaching should be targeted to help people grow past the “stereotype”. As they learn more about their personalities, understand themselves better, and even be more inclined to give to the church.

The Engaging Donor

These kinds of personalities are generous and demonstrative. They aim to please others and can be possessive.

This empathetic type is naturally helpful and giving. Born with a heart of gold, these donors can’t pass by someone in need without doing something significant.

They are not always born into wealth or security, but their heartfelt desire to serve and be a beacon of light to those in need makes them valuable to the church.

They are motivated by selflessness, and serving others is always their priority. Emotionally driven, this type of donor is known to put the work of the church even above their own work and family. Church pastors must help them find the balance between all the necessary elements for spiritual growth.

Practical Ways to Encourage Engaging Donors:

  • Create opportunities for them to help and give that go beyond financial gift
  • Send them your monthly and annual donor newsletters to ensure that they are updated with the needs and programs of the church. Because they may have already been quite active with your ministries, be sure to thank them in your bulletins and church announcements.

Further Tips for Pastors and Church Managers

Keep in mind that the Engaging Donors’ ability to see and respond to a need at the right time makes them valuable supporters of the church. If your mission is meaningful and well-grounded, it won’t take much convincing to get them on board with giving.

That said, do not take Engaging Donors for granted, just because giving is a part of their in-born nature. Continue to help them grow spiritually, with personal guidance and curated content that speaks to their giving heart.

Character Example: Think Lady Gaga, who uses her lyrics and performance art to make a change and raise funds for a good cause. She is not just a performer, but a philanthropist who lives to make the world better for those both in and out of her circles.

“Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you're wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore.”

Bible Verses on Giving To Inspire You As You Lead Type 2 Donors

6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.

16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
