Donor Type 3:

The Engaging Donor

If you landed on this page, you might have taken our Donor Personality Test, based on the 9 Types of Personalities. The answers to the questions we asked would have then summed up the likelihood of a Type Three personality.

This represents the Driven Donor. Let’s explore more about this type of Donor and how you as a church leader or pastor can provide for their spiritual needs while teaching them about giving to the church and supporting your missions.

What Makes a Driven Donor Different From the Others?

These folks have it in their DNA to be adaptable and excel at nearly everything they put their mind to. They are driven but can be image-conscious.

They are high achievers, always on top of their game, and known for their energy, stamina, and powerful presence. They are passionate about whatever cause they decide to support, whether it be a for-profit or nonprofit.

The Following Terms Describe a Driven Donor Best:

  • On top of their game
  • Powerful speaker
  • Great stage presence
  • Workaholic
  • High-achiever
  • Naturally charming
  • An influencer

What Motivates the Driven Donor?

The Driven Donor gravitates to other high achievers. If your church can show great statistics in your missions and prove that donated funds are being used wisely, you will attract many Driven Donors to your cause.

Pastors who influence others positively can also be mentors and guides for the Driven Donor.

What Are Driven Donors Most Passionate About?

Driven Donors understand that regardless of their education, experience, upbringing, or career, it’s their mindset that matters.

That’s why they invest a lot in creating a positive, powerful image — so that they can drive change forward or even influence others outside the church to give and serve.

When you have these types of Donors championing your cause, they will show unwavering support. Most importantly, they’ll show up when the need arises, ready to help you achieve your goals and missions.

Driven Donor Character Example

Who can we think of as a Driven Donor type? The first name that comes to mind is Oprah Winfrey, the woman known for using her platform and resources to drive change and serve others. She tops the list of the 50 most generous Americans and is the only black woman on that list. Oprah's achievements are seemingly endless. She inspires almost everyone she meets because what drives her is an honest interest in people and humanity.

Here is inspiration from the Queen of Talk herself on giving back:

“Your calling isn’t something that somebody can tell you about. It’s what you feel. It is the thing that gives you juice. The thing that you are supposed to do. And nobody can tell you what that is. You know it inside yourself.”

How Can You Engage the Driven Donor?

Think about how your mission can align with their goals. Motivating them means providing ways they can take action.

These types of Donors, usually successful in their fields, are focused and determined. Engage them by outlining the exact goals of your mission and giving them concrete ways to help.

Don’t be afraid to be direct when asking for donations. The Driven Donors need to know what outcome you expect so they can also remain focused on helping you get there. For example, don’t just say, “We appreciate any help you can give,” but make it more specific: “We are aiming to raise $10,000 for our next project and need commitments to reach this goal.”

Practical Ways to Encourage Driven Donors:

Appeal to their value system and emphasize the fact that their donations help to achieve a greater goal. Activate their desire to help by planning Bible studies on topics such as “A Purpose-Driven Life,” or reading texts about characters who were also highly motivated to serve.

Best Way to Thank a Driven Donor

Driven Donors appreciate when their example inspires others. Inspire their generosity by giving them a special mention as a “consistent contributor” in your monthly or annual newsletter.

Another Tip for Pastors and Church Managers

Leaders and pastors of Driven Donors should help them give to causes that are interesting, meaningful, or developmental. They might be happy to give when it is a fund for education, for example. Show the Driven Donor how their gifts encourage others to also contribute to the world in a deeper way.

Bible Verses on Giving to Inspire You as You Lead Driven Donors

The following verses remind us to lead a Purpose-driven life and may be helpful to you when planning Bible studies for Driven Donors, or teaching Biblical concepts.

“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth”

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”

16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out”
