Analyzing Your Impact

Film Script #15

Celebrate

Think back to the last event your church hosted. Maybe it was a community outreach or a marriage retreat. Did your team celebrate after the event concluded?

What about after wrapping up a project such as remodeling part of the church facility or training a new batch of volunteers? Did you mark the occasion or simply move on to the next task?

With lengthy to-do lists and scarce resources, it’s tempting to move from one event or project immediately into the next without pausing to reflect or rejoice. After all, there’s always more work to do in ministry. More souls to reach with the Gospel. More people to help out of dire situations. More disciples to make and nurture.

However, pausing (even briefly) to celebrate accomplishes several things:

  • It increases our faith as we reflect on what God did in and through us.
  • Provides an occasion to praise God collectively for what He did.
  • Provides the opportunity to thank those who contributed to the successful event, project, or goal.
  • It’s a chance to take a deep breath and simply enjoy the moment - to have fun with those you’re serving alongside.
  • Fuels you and your team with renewed energy to tackle the next project.
  • Boosts your confidence as you reflect on what you’ve already accomplished.
  • Encourages others as you celebrate them and their contributions

We see several examples of celebrations in the Bible. Consider how often God commanded the Israelites to mark an occasion by building an altar or celebrating with a feast.

Celebrations don’t have to be big to be effective.
Celebrating builds community.
