5 Benefits of Online Giving for Churches

Statistics show that the churches and missions who moved to online giving during the pandemic equaled and even surpassed their giving level stats compared to the year before. Some of the churches who were surveyed showed that their April 2020 gifts exceeded giving levels during April 2019. What caused this positive trend, even in the midst of a terrible pandemic? It’s just one of the many benefits of online giving.

The churches who were able to grow their ministries, feed their congregation spiritually and also find new recurring donors, were those who utilized online giving and digital platforms. This is the secret that those churches who thrived were able to put into practice.

Thankfully, all of the tools that they had at their disposal are also available to any church willing to make the transition into virtual ministries. Your content remains the same, but the way you are sharing it, cultivating your donors, and reaching your mission goals has been upgraded,

Here are some of the top benefits of using online giving for your church and ministry.

1.      Online giving makes it easy to give

Imagine what life was like before the internet…before online banking, before virtual education, before smartphones. Sure, we got by and survived, but things were more complicated. Banking processes took longer. So did postal services, and nearly every form of communication. Online giving is essentially the easiest way for donors to find you, support, and keep coming to help you reach your mission goals.

2.     You leave no one behind with online giving

Some people may be in quarantine in their homes due to the pandemic, or they may be fearful to have personal contact with anyone for the time being. This does not mean they do not want to keep supporting and giving to your work. A tool like text-to-tithe software means no one gets left out. This also holds true for church members of all ages. Your youth and those who are used to consuming everything on their smartphones now have a way to participate and experience all the spiritual rewards.

3.     You allow church managers to stay focused

church pastor or team leader already has so much on his or her plate. Thinking about online giving management adds yet another responsibility. However, a tool such as email giving software streamlines the process and frees them to focus on their most important leadership tasks. While this important part of church growth and marketing is covered, your church leaders have time and space to lead their flocks accordingly.

4.     You learn more about your church members and donors

Some online giving software comes with forms or surveys. These are especially helpful for church leaders who want to have better, deeper insights into their congregation. When your members and donors fill out the forms, when you acquire new data insights, you can then plan for future services and training programs catered to the needs of your church members and those who directly support your mission.

5.     Online giving makes a way for the new

In the Bible, the Christian apostles received the command to go “into all the world and preach the gospel”. Essentially, this meant that they had to learn how to adapt: to new cultures, new change new ways of being a witness. The modern ways of evangelizing bring the Bible closer to people’s homes, even more than just a television. With church sermons streaming live on their smartphones, people can ask for prayer immediately, connect instantly.

In closing, let’s remember what God`s word has to say on the subject of giving.

2 Corinthians 9:10-15

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give. Not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly. So that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
