The Miracle Baby who Three Decades Later Rescued his Saviour from the Jaws of Death
Our world is riddled with death, destruction, torment, and disease, there is also a lot of good to be grateful for Rescuer Become Rescued In Miraculous save. There are genuine and kind people who make you believe that good still exists in the world. And every once in a while, you come across a miracle so stunning you may initially struggle to believe its authenticity. However, once you allow it to settle in, you marvel at the presence of God in our lives and how He chooses to make His presence felt when we least expect it. It makes us stronger in our faith, and perhaps that is His very purpose.
One such story is that of Dr. Michael Shannon and Chris Trokey. It was the year 1981, and a very sick little baby was fighting the battle for life. The wait was agonizingly slow. There was a hush in the hospital corridor as California-based doctor, Michael Shannon, labored to save the life of the prematurely born baby boy who had been given a 50 percent chance of survival. Just 3.2 pounds, the feisty little boy, Chris Trokey, was suffering from a high fever that was life-threatening. He beat the odds after Shannon stayed watch 24/7 to keep a check on his stability and vital statistics. Once his health improved, he was sent home with his grateful family.
Three decades or so down the line, the preemie was now a grown man and a vital part of the Orange County’s Fire Authority paramedic firefighter squad. On the 29th of March, 2011 the squad from Paramedic Engine Number 29 was on its way back from another call when it got an alert of a horrific accident on the Californian Pacific Coast Highway, at Dana Point. A truck had crashed into an SUV. The SUV was on fire with the occupant still inside. Rushing to the spot within minutes, Trokey and his team used the Jaws of Life tool to rescue the occupant from the burning vehicle. The fire crews worked hard to extinguish the roaring flames and the badly injured victim was transferred to Mission Viejo’s Mission Hospital. Turned out that this hardy man was none other than Dr. Shannon himself! Two of his toes had to be amputated and he was forced to spend a month and a half in the hospital, recovering from his internal injuries.
This unbelievable story was one to be retold many times in the future. As Trokey told KTLA, “I didn’t know about it until I went to the hospital and started talking about it, Dr. Shannon. And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Dr. Shannon?’ That’s when I found out.”
Dr. Shannon spoke to Yahoo Parenting about the incident. “I remember family names relatively easily,” he said. “So I remembered Trokey when I found out his name after I got to the hospital.” He went on to say, “I do believe that things are supposed to happen when they do. I see examples of this almost daily in my life and practice.”
In 2015, four years after the dramatic encounter, the two men met at a fundraising event in Rancho Santa Margarita for St. Baldrick’s children’s cancer research charity. The magnitude of the miraculous occurrence had a special effect on thousands of people who happened across the story. The event publicized on the KTLA social media account drew in over 20,000 “likes”!
Shannon and Trokey reconnected during Shannon’s long hospital stay in 2011. They have kept in close contact ever since. “It’s amazing to watch [my patients] all grow up, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it — that’s really incredible,” Shannon had said.
Trokey shares the sentiment and was recorded as saying to Yahoo Parenting, “It would be hard to put into a few sentences what Dr. Shannon means to me. He is one of the most knowledgeable and caring pediatricians I’ve ever met. He’s been doing this for 42 years and could have been long since retired, but he keeps doing it because he loves it. I am just one of many that have a strong connection with him, and am very lucky for that.”
A little after the happy reunion, Trokey became a father of a baby boy. He chose Dr. Shannon as his son’s pediatrician, saying that there is no one else he’d rather have look after his little one.
