5 Fresh Ideas for Sunday Offering and Tithes Sermons

Giving and tithing are concepts that take time to teach, learn, and comprehend. Donors also need to trust that your mission will accomplish its goals, and that you as a church leader have their best interests in mind. This can make the right offering and tithes sermons an invaluable asset.

Unfortunately, giving can be a tricky topic to approach. You must always discuss it humbly, helping your sponsors and donors to see the needs of your church. Pastors and leaders must always speak and preach from a heart full of faith.

Plan your Sunday sermons to build on the different aspects of giving, making each lesson deeper as you progress. If you need fresh ideas for giving themes, the following may inspire you for your next sermons.

1.       Giving from the Heart

No one should feel forced to give. Your donors have worked hard for their income, and they must see giving as an investment that they are happy to make. Emphasize that giving is a personal decision. Each donor or church member should decide what they feel comfortable with when tithing or offering gifts.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7

2.      Why We Give Offering and Tithes

Set aside one sermon for reviewing the Biblical perspective on giving. Since the Bible times, those who followed God looked at giving to his servants as an honor. They felt that supporting the church and those who dedicated their lives to fulltime service was their way of honoring God.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. – Luke 6:38

3.      Giving as an Abundance Mindset

Those who have a financially abundant mindset understand that money has flow. They eliminate sayings such as the ones below from their thinking:

“I’ll never ever be rich.”

“There’s never enough money to go around.”

“I’m not good enough, I will never earn enough.”

“No matter how hard I try, I’ll never be happy.”

Instead of these self-limiting beliefs, they think positively, and in return, they experience an abundant life. They know that their hard work will earn them enough that there will always be more than enough, and that happiness comes from within—not from without. You too, can teach giving as an abundance mindset. When people withhold out of a scarcity mindset, they are less likely to give.

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” – Malachi 3:10

4.      Giving, Generosity and Gratitude

Another concept you can teach on in your sermons is the cycle of giving. When we have a grateful heart, we are generous givers. When we are grateful, our hearts are full, and we now that when we give, the space will be filled back up again. We will never “run out”. Of course, you must also teach wisdom in giving, show people that they can decide which missions or projects of the church to invest in, and not just give blindly.

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. – Proverbs 11:24-25

5.      Offering and Tithes Lead to Greater Treasures

Tithing has its foundations in Scripture, and it has been proven repeatedly that those who give from a cheerful heart receive blessings in abundance. These greater treasures do not always have to be financial ones. Some feel blessed in health, in family, in love and support. Use your sermon to show how blessings and treasures come in different ways to different people.

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. – Luke 12:33-34

We hope the above list inspires you to grow your donors in an authentic and trustworthy way. Tithing apps can help you keep track of your gifts and include your donors in the progress your missions are making because of their generosity.
