Modern Day Tithing Formula

Tithing is something that it seems was a ‘no-brainer’ even a generation ago, but not it’s something pastors seem to have to work harder to get their congregation to do.

By now it’s no secret that an inordinately low percentage of people give by the traditional tithing standard. In fact, some studies show that 80% of giving in an average church is made by about 20% of the congregation. Statistics like these have caused Pastor Robert Fain to do some serious thinking about the traditional tithing standard, and in his opinion, “it’s somewhat unreasonable.” He says many people’s initial thoughts upon hearing the tithe explained are immediately, “that’s not possible for me right now.”

Some of the most common tithing questions include things like, “Do I tithe on my full paycheck or after taxes have been taken out?”  “What if I already give to a mission, do I deduct that from what I give the church?”

This is why Pastor Fain has designed what he calls a kind of ‘Modern Day Tithing Formula.’ Hear the formula he’s come up with and how he builds a starting ground for all givers, helping them to take steps to be more faithful in their giving every year…
